When does it affect you?

MTD for Income Tax is being phased in by income level. Your "qualifying income" is your gross self‑employment and property income before expenses.

From April 2026
Over £50,000

Qualifying income above £50k — already in MTD.

From April 2027
Over £30,000

Qualifying income above £30k joins next.

From April 2028
Over £20,000

Threshold drops to £20k.

Not sure which applies to you? Start dates depend on your income and can change. We'll check your position and confirm exactly when you need to be ready.
